Telecommunicator
This critical and exciting position requires constant attention to detail, as it is responsible for dispatching and monitoring calls for police, fire and emergency medical services, and is the primary public safety answering point for all emergency 911 calls in the Town of Palm Beach.

Job Requirements
Qualified applicants must be able to accurately type a minimum of 35 words per minute, and be able to perform multiple tasks at the same time. This position requires an individual to wear a headset, listen to a police/fire radio console, answer telephone calls for assistance, and type into a computer simultaneously.
Skills
The ideal candidate must be customer service oriented, must be able to speak distinctly and be able to deal with people involved in emergency situations, often involving a high degree of stress. The individual applying for this position must possess a strong desire to help people in need.
Experience and Education
Minimum qualifications include graduation from an accredited high school or a G.E.D. No previous experience is necessary; however, a general knowledge of telecommunications systems, town geography, police, fire, and EMS operations is preferred.
Applicants who pass the typing test, skills assessment, and oral interview may qualify to receive a conditional offer of employment. These applicants will undergo further testing to include a comprehensive background investigation, psychological examination, medical examination, drug screening and voice stress analysis.
The Town of Palm Beach Communications Unit is located within the Police Department at 345 South County Road. The Communications Center utilizes a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, an enhanced 911 system, and has direct contact with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and FBI computer systems. Radio communications are conducted using a state of the art 800 MHz trunked radio system.
