PROJECT LIFESAVER Thanks to Palm Beach Crime Watch, Inc. the Palm Beach Police Department is now a PROJECT LIFESAVER partner. Crime Watch underwrote the purchase of two tracking devices and our police officers were trained by Project Lifesaver of Palm Beach County. Project Lifesaver deploys specially trained teams of law enforcement officers with the most reliable, proven radio technology available to quickly locate and return wandering adults and children (with mental disorders including autism, dementia and Alzheimers) to their families and caregivers. We will be working together with police agencies in Palm Beach County including the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter and Boca Raton Clients enrolled in the Project Lifesaver program wear a personalized wristband that emits a tracking signal. When a caregiver notifies 9-1-1 that a Project Lifesaver participant is missing, the search teams are alerted and respond to points last seen to begin tracking the participant’s specific assigned frequency. Search times have been reduced from days to hours to minutes. Project Lifesaver International reports that in 1900 searches, no serious injuries or deaths have been reported and recovery times average less than 30 minutes. Wristbands can be obtained only from the program’s managing agencies. There is a one-time charge of $99. and monthly fees of $30 to cover wristband monitoring and battery replacement. Financial assistance may be available to families in need. If you are a family member or caregiver, you are encouraged to contact Project Lifesaver of Palm Beach County for more information on obtaining a wristband for an adult or child who might wander.
